Very good explanation of how it works. But it seems that the assumption in this post is that I do everything by myself. I don’t like it :). I want my Journalist, Proof Editors, Copy Editors, Chief Copy Editor and my Director from Part I to take care of everything. I just tell them that I need a new List of 10 000 buy the end of May and they fix it all.

    Cheers

[Note by John: you will see how things are leveraged in Part IV]

    Well Done John!

I found your report very useful and informative.
We just need to create a good list of subscribers, all the others will follow. This is the first and most difficult step for newbies. Keep Walking!!!

    John,

This is a perfect post for showing exactly how conversion works.

I love turboaffiliatearchery.com. Talk about making it simple.

Once you understand the numbers and the inter-dependencies of them, you get a different appreciate for what needs to be done.

I think we can all agreed that having a decent size mailing list is a worthy goal to pursue.

Now, how do you get there? How do you start?

It seems the 2 most difficult things are getting getting and keeping subscribers.

It is maybe simpler to get the subscriber. But without compelling content delivered to them on a regular basis, it will be very difficult to keep that subscriber.

I suppose this is the challenge of any publication, online or offline.

So, in light of everything presented in these 3 parts… it would seem to bring us squarely back to Part 1.

When you start your publication, where do you focus?

Should you be the journalist or the publisher? And there is actually one very important person that is missing from the newspaper metaphor and that is subscription & circulation manager (i.e. the traffic gatherer)… because without the subscribers, whats the point of writing?

Actually, when one really stops to think about all the roles one must actually play in building a successful web business, it can be very, very overwhelming.

And I guess it all comes back to Part 1 & 2, in deciding who you are, what you can and want to do, and being happy with that.

Now, I gotta go away, my head hurts… teehee :)
    Dennis
